Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of Tablight at tablight.app (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

Tablight is a free tool for analysing and practising tablature and melodies. It is provided as-is, for personal and educational use. It may change, break, or be discontinued at any time, without notice and without liability.

Anything you enter — a tab, a melody, a recording of your own timing — remains yours. Tablight claims no rights over it, and never saves it on the server (see Privacy). What you keep lives in your browser and in any files you choose to save.

You are responsible for the content you enter, and you confirm that you have the right to use it. Do not use the Service to reproduce, distribute or otherwise infringe material you do not have the right to use.

Tablight publishes nothing its users enter: no one can see anyone else's content, and there is no catalogue of songs. If you nevertheless believe the Service is being used to infringe your rights, write to [email protected] with what the content is, why you believe it infringes, and how to reach you. Notices are handled promptly.

The Service, its code, design, text and interfaces are protected and remain the property of their developer. You may not:

• copy, republish, mirror or redistribute the Service or any part of it;
• create derivative works based on it;
• scrape it, or access it by automated means, at scale, or in a way that burdens the server;
• reverse-engineer, probe or attempt to extract the server-side software or its API beyond ordinary use of the site;
• remove or obscure any copyright or ownership notice;
• use the Service unlawfully, or to infringe anyone's rights.

You may, of course, use Tablight freely for your own playing, teaching and learning, and link to it.

Tablight has no accounts, no database and no ads. It does not ask who you are, and it does not track you, profile you or sell anything about you. Privacy questions and requests go to [email protected].

What reaches the server.

• Your tab or melody, when you press Analyse or Generate tab or refret a tab, and the chords you look up or name on the Chord page. The server works on these in memory, for your session only. They are never written to disk and never logged, and they are gone at most four hours after your last use. A session cookie, holding nothing but a random identifier, connects your browser to that session; the site cannot work without it.
• A short access log: for each request, the time, the feature used, whether it succeeded and how long it took, a hashed IP address (never the address itself) and the country it belongs to. It is used only to see whether the site has visitors and to keep it running, and it is deleted after 30 days.

What stays on your device.

• Settings and recordings — your preferences, your recorded timings and a few markers (such as whether you have seen the welcome tip) are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device; clearing the site's data removes them.
• The microphone. Mic input is analysed inside your browser. Only the notes it detects and their timing are kept; the sound itself is never sent or stored.
• Files you import (PDF, MIDI, MusicXML, text or a Tablight file) are read inside your browser. Only the tab or melody that results reaches the server, and only when you use one of the features above.

Others involved. The site runs on a server in Belgium, and its traffic passes through Cloudflare, which delivers and protects it and sees your IP address to do so. If you email Tablight (the form on the About page opens your own email app), your address and message are used only to reply. Contributions through Buy Me a Coffee are handled under that service's own terms.

Your rights. The access log serves Tablight's legitimate interest in running and protecting the site. You may ask to see or delete what is held about you; since Tablight does not know who you are, such a request can only be matched by IP address and time. You may also complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority.

MuseScore, Guitar Pro, Sibelius and Dorico are trademarks of their respective owners. They are named only to say which files Tablight can read. Tablight is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of them.

The Service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of results. Musical analysis is offered as a guide, not as a statement of fact — verify anything that matters before relying on it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tablight is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service, including loss of data or work. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury, or fraud, nor any statutory rights you have as a consumer.

These terms may be updated from time to time. The date above shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are governed by Belgian law, and the courts of Belgium have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live.
